The Application of Taguchi Technique in Mild Steel Weld Prediction and Optimization

Welding is a key joining operation in many production and manufacturing industries, it requires scientific approach obtaining weld of high quality. This study focuses on the prediction optimization parameters mild steel plate using Taguchi technique. For experimental examination, 10mm thickness, along with input process such as current, arc voltage, gas flow rate, output parameter hardness were studied. With statistical tool, ANOVA, further analysis performed to determine significance data obtained shows that for all responses, Model F-value between 64 129.85 was obtained, P-value less than 0.05, implying model significant. Furthermore, based evidence P-values, terms; welding voltage rate recorded significant contribution outcome experiment, current having most effect. The optimal result responses 192BHN hardness, at combined follows; 200amps, 20v 20lt/min respectively.
